«Descanso sobre ruinas»

His book «Descanso sobre ruinas» (Resting on Ruins) came out in 2021 with Ediciones Continente in Buenos Aires, in its poetry series. It maps instability and the ruins of what was once sworn to last, with influences ranging from street speech to lyric poetry. The publisher describes it as an uncomfortable journey that arrives nowhere – because the journey is all there is.

Five poems from the book can be read in the magazine La Primera Piedra (in Spanish).

Poetry from the villa

Rodrigo Armoa grew up in the San Cayetano neighbourhood of Buenos Aires. He is a poet, a father and a social activist, and since 2018 he has been publishing his poems online as Poeta Villero. In poems like «Somos villa» (We are the villa) he names his Paraguayan, Bolivian and Argentine neighbours, the weekend football pitch and the cumbia drifting out of the window; in others, love, desire and everyday life.

In an interview with Radio Nacional he spoke about what it means to be dark-skinned in the barrio, and about poetry as a way of naming it.
